Wooky Stax - Sunny

Meet Wooky Stax.  The hip hop alter ego of Ryan Rockwell, singer and guitarist for the pop punk group Mixtapes.

I haven't yet figured out if this album is meant to be taken seriously or not, but regardless, it's a whole lot of fun.  The stand out track on this one is track 6, "Feel Good Song (of the year)", which draws heavily from the Cee-Lo Green track, "Fuck You".  While Wooky Stax isn't likely to fall into anyone's regular rotation, the EP is a lot of fun, and well worth a download.

In Mixtapes related news.  The band is set to release another EP in October, with their second full length, and follow up to the pop punk masterpiece, Maps, also in the works.

HWM - The Fire, The Steel, The Tread - Adds Up To Nothing

Hot Water Music is back with the release of The Fire, The Steel, The Tread - Adds Up To Nothing.  The digital download is available now via Amazon or iTunes.  The 7" will be going up for sale through No Idea Records, Chunksaah, or through the bands official store.

The EP features two songs.  A rerecording of the Chuck Ragan track, "The Fire, The Steel, The Tread" and the track "Adds Up To Nothing".  The songs are great, and hopefully only a precursor to a new full length.

Dan Andriano In The Emergency Room - Hurricane Season

Hurricane Season, the the solo debut from long time Alkaline Trio bassist Dan Andriano, hit stores earlier this month courtesy of Asian Man Records.  The album delivers 34 minutes of emotionally charged, hard hitting acoustic rock.

Well worth the download for anyone who enjoys Andriano's work with AK3.

Direct Hit! - Domesplitter

FUCK YOU, GET PUMPED!

While this is technically the first full length album from Milwaukee's Direct Hit!  What it essentially is, is a rerecording of the bands first 5 EP's.  I'm generally not a fan of bands, especially a band as young as Direct Hit!, taking the time to rerecord old material.  However with a steady lineup finally in place, and the fact that those EP's are now out of print.  I suppose this album makes sense for the band.

I've been following Direct Hit! since their split with Mixtapes.  So prior to the release of Domesplitter, available now through Kind Of Like Records, and being offered up for free on the bands Bandcamp page.  I had already heard the vast majority of the material on this record.  Quite honestly, these songs did not have to be rerecorded.

Don't get me wrong.  This is some great, high energy pop punk.  Some of the tracks translate over wonderfully, and I dare you not to sing along to "They Came For Me", or "Failed Invasion".  It's just that I don't feel there was a whole lot wrong with the original recordings, and I would have preferred to get my hands on some new material.

With that said, it's well worth a download.  If you were already familiar with Direct Hit! prior to this release, don't expect a whole lot.  However if you're just checking them out for the first time now.  Domesplitter is a great place to start.

Red City Radio - The Dangers Of Standing Still

The follow up to the bands mildly successfully EP, "To The Sons And Daughters Of Woody Guthrie", Red City Radio certainly does not disappoint with their highly anticipated debut full length, "The Dangers Of Standing Still".  Which dropped back in February courtesy of Paper + Plastick.

Delivering the same brand of high energy grizzly voiced pop punk that was displayed on the bands first EP.  Red City Radio seems to have perfected a sounds which I can really only describe as a cross between Hot Water Music, and Dillinger Four.

The album kicks off with the track "An Introduction Of Sorts", which picks up around the 45 second mark. The band then proceeds to tear through the next 5 tracks.  Offering up some of the most well put together songs, and catchiest melodies that the genre has seen in a very long time.  All it takes is one listen through and you'll be signing along to every "Woooah".

The band recently announced via their Twitter that a split with Denver's own, The Gamits, was in the works.

Syncing with Social Networking

So I've been playing around for a bit, attempting to sync up my Blogger account with various Social Networking sites.  It's been kind of a frustrating process, but slowly but surely I'm figuring it out.

I've also gone ahead and setup Google Adsense.  Though I'm not sure if that's something I intend on keeping on the blog.  We'll see...

(7:55 AM):  Testing now to see if my Blogger is now synced up with my Twitter account.  I'm attempting to do this via Twitterfeed.

(8:06 AM): Looks like I've successfully linked up my Blogger to my Twitter.  Next up, I'm going to look into linking this up with my Last.fm.  At the very least I would like to incorporate my scrobbler into my blog.  Although I'm not necessarily thrilled with the idea of using an HTML widget.

(8:55 AM): Managed to get the blog synced up to my own personal Facebook without any problems.  Created a fan page, specific to Pabstcore, the Devil, and More.  Now I'm going to look into Last.fm integration.

(9:27 AM): No luck finding a way to integrate my Last.fm into the blog.  At this point I'm thinking my only option would be to use an HTML widget to display my previously played tracks.  I'll come back to that later.

(9:31 AM): Now going to work on integrating a shared Dropbox into the blog.  Having a public Dropbox would help make it easier for people to upload and share music on the blog.  Not to mention I find Dropbox more reliable than services such as Mediafire, Rapidshare, etc etc.
